2011 Conference Report

The NCWGB Annual Conference was held over three days, 14th,15th,16th October, at the Gateway Hotel, Nottingham. Hosted by the East Midlands Region, the theme was Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

2010 Conference

2010 Conference Report

The National Council of Women of Great Britain Annual Conference was held at Ramada Hotel & Country Club Gloucester on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th October, 2010, hosted by the South West and Midland Region.

The Conference Seminar 'The Myths of the Drink Culture' was addressed by leading speakers in their fields:

  • Sir Ian Gilmore, Immediate Past President, Royal College of Physicians
  • Dr Timothy Brain, recently retired Chief Constable of Gloucestershire
  • Linda Duberley, freelance writer, broadcaster and TV presenter

Resolutions on a range of important issues met with lively debate. Those passed included:

  • The Sexualisation and Exploitation of Children and the need to ban manipulative marketing techniques,
  • Funding of Museums and Galleries
  • Malnutrition in Hospitals
  • Protection of Women and Children from Rape in Post-disaster and Post-conflict Situations
  • Badgers and the Protection of Cattle
  • Gender Equality in Parliamentary Representation

NCW's international perspective was highlighted with an account of current work in the International Council of Women (NCWGB was a founder member in 1897) and the European Centre of the International Council of Women. Delegates also learnt of NCW's representation at the Commission on the Status of Women; we have special consultative status at the UN.
