Foreign Affairs Committee

The NCW Foreign Affairs group maintains a watching brief on international developments of concern to women and keeps NCW members informed of work to improve conditions for women and children worldwide.

Some of the issues which give cause for concern include:

  • Trafficking in Women and Girls
  • Violence in all its forms against women
  • The problems of refugees - the majority of sufferers are women and children

The FA group supports the vital work of the United Nations, CEDAW and UNIFEM, and keeps a keen watch on the Beijing + 15 platform for action, and the Millennium Development Goals.

The group usually meets on a regular basis in London and frequently organises seminars and invites guest speakers to address the committee. From time to time, the National Council of Women is asked to arrange for delegations of women from overseas countries to meet members of NCW to discuss the work of the organisation and to exchange views. In the past these delegations, usually quite small, have come from China, Japan, Central and Eastern Europe, Siberia and different parts of Africa.
