The Health Committee

The Health Committee meets in Birmingham, four times a year. Representatives of Branches and Affiliated Societies bring their concerns and their expertise to the flexible and wide-ranging agenda.

Yearly, we hold a Seminar - now jointly with Birmingham City University - to explore, in depth and from experts in the field, issues related to health and of relevance to the students. From these days, we produce reports which are disseminated to educate others and which form the basis of our responses to Government.

Most recently we have responded to Government Consultations or made representations to Parliament on: folic acid; care of the elderly; caring for the carers; child health; the shortage of midwives; the importance of midwives in the care of women and their babies; perinatal mental health; gynaecological care; Local pharmacies; Alzheimer's disease; post-traumatic stress in the military; nutrition in hospitals and care homes; safeguarding the vulnerable, of all ages; sexually-transmitted infections and relevant sex education; hospital car-parking .
