Social and Employment Committee

The Social and Employment Issues group deals with problems which arise as a result of the changing lifestyles in our society.

At recent meetings there have been speakers on women in the criminal system, diversity and employment, and the national strategy for carers. Regular reports are given on the latest developments on topics such as 'women in decision making', family issues, employment issues, and 'offenders and victims' and responses to government consultation, including 'Shaping the Future of Care'.

The current work plan is to consider:

  • Changes in social security provisions
  • Women and the law, prisons
  • Prostitution
  • Women and employment
  • Carers
  • Employment and ageism
  • Violence against women and children
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Child poverty
