On 1 May, National Council of Women heard back from those who had attended the Commission on the Status of Women – our members and Associates ( Methodist Women, Wales Assembly of Women, Scottish Women’s Convention, Women Graduates, Orchid Project – and Girlguiding as well).

Points made were:
🔺The alarming extent of global internet harm
🔺The effect of extreme online pornography on real life violence, abuse and relationships.
🔺Use of AI generated pornograhic images to humiliate and silence women including nudification apps.
🔺The need to cooperate internationally because of the global reach of the tech giants.
🔺Consent, relationship and respect guidance in schools.

🔺Afghan women and the need to recognise gender apartheid as a crime against humanity. Funding needed to train Afghan women abroad.

🔺44,320 deaths a year caused by female genital mutilation – a global health emergency.

🔺Real suffering of women from climate change. Women farmers saying ‘we are the land’ and needing safe spaces to discuss the challenge.

🔺Needing to remove stigma around periods which holds girls and women back at school and at work. Period positive workplaces where period products are openly provided.

If you care about these issues you are very welcome to join NCW.
