Are you a young woman aged 18 – 30 years?
Do you feel passionate about creating a fairer society?
Would you like to meet other inspiring young women from your peer group, who can share the ways they have achieved really positive changes through community campaigning?
NCWGB hosted a free networking event for young women between 18 and 30 years old. Hosted on Saturday 9th November 2024, the event allowed these young women to share the ways in which they have enacted positive change through community campaigning. It brought together those with direct experience of exclusion and those with a strong desire to change current practices so all young women can have a voice.
The morning sessions were led by key professional women. Topics included challenges, barriers, opportunities and solutions for young women from deaf and disabled communities, black and ethnic minorities, LGTBQ+ family, and those living in rural and poor urban areas
The afternoon saw a performance by actor Kate Willoughby as Suffragette Emily Wilding-Davison. The performance honoured the suffragettes’ contribution to women’s rights. The first three speakers were all members of our Network 18-30. Abby spoke about her experience of representing NCWGB at the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women in New York; Helena told us all about her work to set up a Reproductive Rights group at Cambridge University; and finally, Cici shared her journey of becoming one of the youngest elected councillors in the UK. Baroness Carmen Smith of LLanfaes finished the presentations with her inspiring route to becoming the youngest ever Life Peer.
